Create your first book
Making your first book is a short, quiet conversation followed by a wait, and then a book lands in your library. Here is what the whole path looks like.
1. Tell Voysey the book you want
On the home page, type the book you wish you could read into the docked prompt. Be as loose or as specific as you like. A single sentence is enough to start.
- "A cozy mystery set in a village bakery in the Cotswolds."
- "A hard science-fiction novel about first contact told from the alien''s point of view."
- "A bedtime story for a six year old who loves dinosaurs."
If you cannot think of one, tap a suggestion chip and edit it into something that fits your mood.
2. Answer a couple of questions
Voysey may ask a small handful of questions above the prompt to sharpen the story before it starts. Tone, length, whether it should have a happy ending, that sort of thing. Answer what feels useful and skip what does not.
3. Pick an edition
You will land on the edition picker. This is where you decide the shape of the book you want, from a short read to something more substantial. Pick the edition that fits and opt in to notifications if you would like to know when the book is ready.
4. Pay
Checkout runs through Stripe. Guest checkout is supported, so you can pay without an account. If you do have an account you will land straight in your library when the book is ready. If you paid as a guest, sign in later with the same email and the book will be waiting for you.
5. Wait, quietly
The making page opens and shows you a calm progress timeline as Voysey writes your book. Nothing to do here. Close the tab, go for a walk, come back later. A notification arrives when your book is ready if you opted in.
6. Pick it up
When the book is ready, the making page turns into a delivery page. Open the reader and start reading, or head to your library to find it later. See "Your library and the reader" for what to do from here.
Writing a whole book is not instant. Expect minutes, not seconds. You do not need to sit and watch it: opt in to notifications on the edition picker and Voysey will let you know when it is ready.
