Foley and ambient, your film's soundscape
Film editor·3 min read·Updated 2 months ago
Beyond dialog and music, films need a texture. That means the foley (footsteps, doors, cloth movement) and the ambient sound (wind, room tone, distant traffic). Voysey generates a sound descriptor for every scene and renders it into the final mix alongside the lines and the score.

What Voysey generates per scene
- Foley: physical action sounds tied to what characters do on screen.
- Interior ambience: room tone, HVAC hum, distant appliances.
- Exterior ambience: wind, birds, traffic, weather.
- Action beds: impact, footsteps at pace, cloth rustle.
- Dialog beds: quiet enough to hear speech clearly.
Adjusting the mix
The mixer treats foley and ambient as their own layers. You can lift them, cut them, or duck them under dialog independently of the music and voice. See Mix your audio for the mixer controls.
Soundscape follows the scene
An interior scene gets interior ambience. When you cut to an exterior, the ambient bed switches. You do not have to place sounds manually for every scene change.
