Transitions between shots

The Transition tab lets you set how one shot flows into the next. The default is a hard cut. Other transitions like a fade, a dissolve, or a push can be applied per shot boundary.

Transition types

• Cut: the default. Shot A ends, shot B begins immediately.
• Fade to black: shot A fades to black, then shot B fades in from black.
• Fade to white: the same, in white.
• Dissolve: shot A blends into shot B directly.
• Push: shot B slides in from a side, pushing shot A out.
• Wipe: a linear or shaped edge sweeps across.

Duration

Every non-cut transition has a duration. Short (250ms) for snappy edits, longer (1s+) for deliberate mood beats. Use the timing control to set it.

Pick with the story, not the software

Transitions are grammar. A cut moves the story forward, a dissolve suggests time passing, a fade to black closes a beat. Pick the transition that serves the moment, not the one that is fanciest.
